Bristol Mountain Participates in an attempt for the Guinness Book World Record for the Largest Ski Lesson

January 8, 2017

Canandaigua, NY (January 6, 2017) Approximately 32 first time skiers and 13 first time snowboarders came to Bristol Mountain today with the goal of learning to ski and snowboard with the added bonus of participating in the Guinness Book of World Record for the Largest snowsports lesson. This is part of a snowsports January Learn to Ski or Snowboard initiative. Participating ski areas around the US and Canada all gave ski and snowboard lessons at the same time within their respective time zones today. The numbers from each ski area will be tallied together in hopes of breaking the former record.

"We had a great time today and introduced 45 people to the lifestyle of skiing and snowboarding and enjoying the great outdoors!", exclaims, marketing director, Drew Broderick. "Numbers were a little lower than we expected due to the cold temperature today but it makes managing the lesson easier for an event like this", comments Broderick.

There are many procedures that a ski area must follow for the number to be considered valid for the Guinness Book record. The lesson had to be videotaped from 1pm-1:30pm without any cuts or edits. Two witnesses and one steward without ties to the Bristol Mountain had to monitor the lesson. Photos, authentication documents and lift tickets with bar codes must be submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records organization within 48 hours of the event to be authenticated. A PSIA lesson plan had to be followed which included equipment introduction, familiarization with walking in skis, side stepping, straight runs, gliding wedges, breaking wedges, wedge turns and competency in ride the Magic Carpet conveyor lift for the first time skiers. Snowboarders had a similar type of curriculum gear toward snowboarding skills. The lesson took place at Bristol Mountain Launching Pad beginner area.

For those who were not able to take advantage of this first time lesson Bristol Mountain does offer many lesson options. One is the VIP Gold Learn to Ski Program that includes a free pair of Elan skis on the last day of the program. There is also Family & Friends Night on Saturday and Sunday Nights from 4pm-close that includes a free 5pm beginner lesson.
