While the late summer weather has been nice to enjoy, when it gets to late September thoughts turn to fall as the humid air turns to the fall crispness like a fresh apple, Ski areas start shifting into fall mode with skyrides, fall festivals and more. It's also a great time to tune up the ski equipment at your local ski area shop or ski shop.
Here are some great fall events to enjoy at ski areas around New York State.

GORE MOUNTAIN PREPS FOR FUN & FALL-THEMED 5K ON SEPTEMBER 30

At Gore Mountain in North Creek, New York, will be hosting its annual "Leaf Cruncher," a 5K trail run/walk on Saturday, September 30. All racers receive a scenic Northwoods Gondola skyride amid colorful Adirondack foliage included with their entry fee.
The race begins at 10am, and the challenging but family-friendly course loops the Gore Mountain Base Area throughout a variety of rolling terrain. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place runners in several age categories for men and women will be recognized with award ribbons following the event, and all runners will be entered for outstanding raffle prizes including outdoor gear, fall-themed items such as pumpkins and mums, Gore Mountain lift tickets, and locally handmade treats from Barkeater Chocolates. Additional prizes will also be hidden along the race route.
Racers can sign up day-of from 8am-9:30am, or preregister at Active.com. Entry fee is $30.

At Holiday Valley in Ellicottville New York they have a number of fall events including:
Sept 23, 30 and Oct 7: Rail Jam Road Show – it's a traveling ramp and rail that we're bringing to a University at Buffalo Football game, Canalside in Buffalo and at the Holiday Valley Fall Festival. Free and open to the public, byo equipment and helmet.
October 7-8 - Ellicottville and Holiday Valley Fall Festival – chairlift rides, ski swap, music, cookout at the top of the mountain, and village events including a huge arts and crafts fair, rides, carnival food and music in all the bars.

October 28 – EVL Half Marathon and 5K. Costumes encouraged!

During the event, we are offering chairlift rides from 11am-3pm. Come out and see the Hudson Valley in its beautiful fall colors. A ticket is only $5, and free for all 2017-2018 season pass holders, just be sure to stop by customer service first and get your photo taken for your pass. You'll need it for the first ride of the season!!!

At Swain in Swain New York, they will be hosting the 2017 Swain Beer Festival on October 21
This year's event will be the biggest yet. Swain Resort will have two floors of craft beer within the main lodge, 2 different venues featuring live music, multiple food trucks, and most importantly over 30 different breweries featuring over 70 different craft brews!
The event starts at 5:00 pm, but we will be hosting an exclusive VIP hour from 4:00 to 5:00 featuring some selections that will not be available to the general public. Only 50 VIP tickets are available so be sure to buy one while you still can.

West Mountain in Queensbury, NY will be holding their third annual Fall Festival this October over the course of two weekends. Beginning Friday, October 6, 2017 from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, October 7, from 12-10 p.m. Sunday, October 8, from 12-5 p.m. Friday, October 14 from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, October 14 from 12-10 p.m. and Sunday, October 15 from 12-5 p.m.
Admission for this event is free and will take place at West Mountain's main lodge. Activities will include a haunted hayride, scenic chairlift rides, live music, pony rides, face painting, fall-themed drink specials, mountain biking, Radical Rush Obstacle course, zorbing, a coloring contest, food and merchant vendors, pumpkin painting, and much more.
This year our Haunted Hayride will feature Abigail West. Discover the legend behind West Mountain as we bring Abigail back to life. Hayrides will be family friendly during the day and scary until 10 p.m. The cost of admission is $12 for adults, and $8 for children 8 years or younger.
Additionally, Dirt Cheap, Grit n Whiskey, Stone's Mountain Band, Dyer Switch Band and other local artist will be performing throughout the Festival. Free beer tastings will be occurring Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. Pumpkins and gourds will be for sale throughout the festival.
