Malone, NY – When the snow finally settled after winter storm Stella, Titus Mountain Family Ski Center had a final snowfall count of 54" at their Upper Mountain.
Just like many local residents, Titus Mountain found themselves shoveling and plowing for over 24 hours in order to capitalize on Mother Nature's late winter bounty. "It's the best conditions we've seen in years here," said Zach White, general manager of the mountain. Snow totals ended up being around 40" at the base of the mountain while the Upper parts of the mountain received a larger snowfall.
"We are running on all cylinders to get the whole mountain ready for our annual season party this weekend; it takes a lot of work to make sure all the snow goes to the right place," said White. Mountain staff were shoveling out their Magic Carpet lift on the learning hill Thursday morning and beginning to work on Upper Mountain lifts later in the day. "By the time Saturday rolls around, we will be operating at 100% once again, which is amazing for this time of year."
The timing of the storm was perfect for Titus Mountain, as their annual season wrap-up party is slated for this Saturday. "Mountain Madness is one of two annual events where we try to open up the hill to everyone—not just skiers and riders," said Brittany Taylor, director of marketing at the mountain. "Just like Oktoberfest, we have some amazing fireworks, but we also add in some fan favorites such as pond skimming and a cardboard sled race. It's just a good time for everyone and we hope it helps people shed any cabin fever they might have."
While a lift ticket is required for some of the activities, most activities, including fireworks and live music by Glass Onion, are free to the general public. "Especially after a storm like Stella, we want to recognize that we live in an area that many people call a winter wonderland. There's a lot of things to do here. Mountain Madness is one of them," said Taylor.
