The Whiteface Mountain elevator, atop the mountain's Veterans' Memorial Highway, is open to the public. The hours are from 8:45 a.m.-5:30 p.m., seven days a week through October 14, 2019.
Rising more than 23 stories from a parking lot at the upper end of the Highway to the granite round house at its summit, the elevator and 400-foot long tunnel leading to it, had undergone a year-and-a-half long reconstruction and renovation. Work began in the fall of 2017.
Visitors will now enjoy a new copper ceiling inside the 400-foot long stone tunnel leading to the new lobby and a completely replaced steel structure which supports the ADA compliant three-sided glass enclosed elevator. Once at the top, they'll step out of the elevator into a round stone historic landmark, more than 4,800 feet above sea level, where they enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Adirondack High Peaks.
The Whiteface Mountain Veteran's Memorial Highway is also open, 8:45 a.m.-5:30 p.m., seven days a week through October 14, 2019.
Highway admission is $16 for vehicle and driver and just $9 for each additional passenger. Children six and under receive free admission and cyclists can climb the eight-mile highway for only $11.
