Q: Do I have to be a New York state resident to participate?
A: No, this program is open to any fourth grader from any state including Canada.
Q: Can the child just go him or herself?
A: No, an adult, up to two children per adult, must accompany the child. The adult can be parents, older siblings, or friends as long as the adult purchases a lift ticket. Check with the ski area you are going to for more information. The Learn to ski part of the program DOES NOT require an adult purchase but it is for kids who have never skied or snowboarded before.
Q: Is this a season pass or just one ticket per area?
A: No, the passport card includes three tickets per participating ski area to each of the participating ski resorts participating. Each of the three tickets per card per participating entitles the 3rd or 4th grader to a free lift pass. For the Learn To Ski/Snowboard part of the program it includes one beginner lift ticket, beginner lesson and rental per participating ski area.
Q: What is proof of grade?
A: A copy of the previous years' report card (3rd grade) or a copy of the current report card. A letter from school on the school letterhead stating they are in 3rd or 4th grade can also be used.
Q: Do I need to send in a picture?
A: No, you do not need to do send a picture. You put one in the booklet when you receive it. Check out Using your Passport for details on this. Any pictures sent will be destroyed and not returned.
Q: What if I lose my card?
A: Contact the I SKI NY Offices at 315-696-6550 or email firstname.lastname@example.org with the childs name, address so we can cancel the card and issue a new one. Replacement cards are $25.
Q. Whom do I make the check out to?
A: To Ski Areas of New York, the sponsor and administrator of the program.
Q: What about home-schooled children?
A: A letter from the coordinating school district or something along those lines will suffice.
Q: Do I have to send in the whole report card?
A: No, all we need is a copy of the page that has:
- Name of the child
- Grade of the child
- School Year
Q: Do I have to send in the original report card?
A: No, a copy is just fine - just one page with the name, year and grade on it is preferred. Report cards will not be returned.
Q: How is the passport sent?
A: The passport is mailed via first class mail within 2 weeks of receipt of the application once the initial shipment of passports has taken place, usually in mid-November.
Q: Can I get the passport faster?
A: Yes, $6 extra for US Priority Mail or an extra $25 we can send it to you via Priority Mail Express or $30 for FedEX overnight. If you would like this please state that on your application. Please note we cannot FedEx to post office boxes, it must be a street address.
Q: What if I have a UPS/Airborne Express account? Can I use that??
A: No, we only ship with FedEx or US Mail.
Q: I have a FedEx account? Can I use that?
A: Yes, just include your account number on the application.
Q: I cannot print the application for one reason or another, how can I get one?
A: You can request one via email by filling out our contact us form.
Q: I forgot to include a check/credit card information with my child's application, how can I pay?
A: You can fax your credit card information to 315-696-6567. You must include the credit card number, expiration and name on the card or you can fill out the payment form securely online here (coming soon).
Q: Does this include lessons or equipment rentals?
A: Yes, the Learn To Ski/Snowboard 3rd & 4th Grade Passport does include one free beginner lesson, rental and beginner ticket. Equipment rentals are not included on the buy one / get one free booklet.
Q: Is there a 5th Grade Passport program in New York?
A: No, there is not a this time. For other discount programs for other ages please contact the ski area you would like to visit. Many areas have childrens programs that may meet your needs.
Q: I have two 3rd or 4th Graders does that mean I have to have two adult ticket purchases?
A: No, up to two 3rd or 4th Graders can redeem their coupons with an adult ticket purchase.
Q: I checked my childs application status and it does not show up there and I know I sent it in. Does this mean you did not receive it?
A: We work as quickly as possible to enter the applications so if your childs application does not show up here that does not necessarily mean we have not received it.
Q: With the Learn to Ski or Snowboard package do I have to participate or can my child(ren) just do that?
A: Yes your kids can just do that if you like, no purchase of an adult Learn To Ski or Snowboard package is necessary.
Q: What is the difference between the Learn To Ski Passport booklet and the regular Passport?
A: The difference between the two passports is that one has the same 3 tickets for each area so when an adult ticket is purchased the child receives a free lift ticket while the other has 1 ticket per participating ski area for a free beginner learn to ski/snowboard package for the child.
Q: Can I choose both Passports or only one?
A: Yes! An additional $26 processing fee will apply. For example if you used the Learn to Ski/Snowboard booklet but also want the standard card with the 3 coupons per participating ski area you can apply for that as well just check both boxes on the form. If you want to apply later on please send in a new application/proof of grade.
Q: Who do I make my check out to?
A: Ski Areas of New York or SANY.
Q: What happens to my application and report card that I send in?
A: All applications and proof of grade are destroyed at the end of the season.
