The Okami Experience
Okami means “goddess,” and once you step inside, the name feels fitting. Tucked into the Umbrella Bar at the base of the mountain, Okami is warm, inviting, and full of life. Natural light pours through the transparent walls, reflecting off the snow outside and filling the space with a soft glow. Paper lanterns hang overhead, the seats wrap around the open kitchen, and the views stretch straight out to the ski slopes. It’s cozy, vibrant, and unmistakably slopeside.
The menu delivers just as much as the atmosphere. Favorites include the spicy tuna roll, tuna avocado, eel avocado cucumber, and the lobster salad mango roll topped with black tobiko. Looking for something with a little heat? The spicy scallop roll finished with wasabi tobiko is a standout. Pair your picks with sake, a cold beer, or a cocktail, settle in, and take your time. Okami is the kind of place that turns one visit into a ritual.
Meet Chef Mr. Lee
At the heart of Okami is Chef Mr. Lee, and if you take a seat around the open kitchen, chances are you’ll see him smiling as he works. His passion is palpable. He grew up in Malaysia and spent years cooking and learning throughout Singapore before continuing to refine his craft in Hong Kong. That global foundation eventually led him to the United States, where he trained in some of the most respected sushi kitchens in the world, including Masa and Nobu. Today, he brings that world-class experience to Okami, blending precision and balance with a warm, welcoming approach.
His philosophy is simple. He wants guests to feel comfortable, relaxed, and genuinely happy the moment they sit down. No pressure. No stress. Just food made with care. He pays close attention to how people order, what they enjoy, and how they like to eat, letting each experience unfold naturally. When asked about his favorite sushi, Mr. Lee points to fugu — blowfish — a delicacy admired for its balance, delicacy, and the skill required to prepare it properly. That appreciation for nuance carries through everything he creates at Okami.
After nearly 16 years on the mountain, Windham has become home. What Mr. Lee loves most is the community. Watching families return year after year, recognizing familiar faces, and being part of the rhythm of the mountain season after season. That sense of connection is what keeps him here, and it’s felt every day at Okami: a place built on care, craftsmanship, and the joy of sharing good food with people who feel like family.
